Clik here to view.Samsung is currently working on a new phone screen that will revolutionize technology. Samsung, at the International CES, debuted a new line of phones with flexible screens. The screens will be made of plastic instead of Gorilla Glass, allowing its shape to be manipulated. Another advantage to these flexible screens is that they cannot be shattered or cracked like current phones using Gorilla Glass. The plastic screens will also significantly reduce the weight of the phone and other gadgets such as tablets. Click here to watch the International CES debut.
Corning Inc., the manufacturer of Gorilla Glass, is set to release a new line of glass this year that is as thin as a sheet of paper and is flexible enough to be wrapped around a structure. This new line of glass is called Willow Glass and its first application will be for solar panels, but eventually will be used for curved devices. Click here to watch CNET’s review of Willow Glass.
There are several issues that are keeping this technology out of production for the moment. Samsung is still working on ways to mass produce the parts cheaply. Another issue is that all the parts inside the flexible screen must also be flexible, including the transparent conductors that send current through the screen.
